The Outer Continental Shelf Policy Committee is a committee of the Minerals Management Advisory Board of the Minerals Management Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Board was created as the Outer Continental Shelf Advisory Board in 1975 by the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (43 U.S.C. 1331, et seq.). Through the Minerals Management Advisory Board, the U.S. Department of the Interior receives comments and recommendations from coastal state officials. The Board also provides a forum for coastal states, federal agencies, and other public and private parties involved in development of the Outer Continental Shelf.
The Policy Committee advises the U.S. Secretary of the Interior on national policy implications of managing federal resources. This includes leasing, exploration, development, and production. of natural and mineral resources of the outer continental shelf.
With the adoption of a new charter, effective March 2004, Maryland no longer is a member of the Outer Continental Shelf Policy Committee.
