The Board advises the Board of County Commissioners and the Parks Division on all questions of general policy relating to parks and public recreation in the County.
Appointed to four-year terms by the Board of County Commissioners, the Board consists of nine members (Code 1957, Art. 25, sec. 226; County Code, secs. 22-1 through 22-12).
The Division is responsible for the organization and conduct of County recreation programs, and the development, operation, and maintenance of County parks and recreational facilities (Code 1957, Art. 25, secs. 222-230; County Code, secs. 22-1 through 22-30)

Formerly the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Recreation Division became a separate unit placed under the Department of Community Services on March 1, 2011.
