Appointed by the County Council to six-year terms, the Commission consists of six members (Chapter 129, Acts of 2010; Code Environment Article, secs. 9-621 through 9-628).

The Airport Division runs the Cambridge-Dorchester Regional Airport southeast of Cambridge, Maryland.
The Engineering Division provides technical advice to the County Council and County Departments, including in-house design, permit acquisition and reporting, funding acquisition and administration, and inspection and construction of projects.
The Highways Division maintains and improves the roadways and bridges within Dorchester County. The Division is responsible for road building; blacktopping of roads (new & overlay); surface treatment; ditching (outlet & roadside); bushing (outlet & roadside); roadside mowing; boat dock maintenance; boat ramp construction; bridge maintenance; snow removal; ice control; signage of all County roads; line stripping of all County roads; and operation of a maintenance/repair shop. The Division also maintains the County marine facilities, including boat ramps, docks,
and boat mooring sites.
ROADS BOARD
In Dorchester County, the County Council constitutes the Roads Board (County Code, sec. 40-1 ).
The Maintenance Division provides daily housekeeping and management of building resources for County public buildings. These include the County Courthouse, the
County Government Building, the State's Attorney Office Building, and the County Visitors Center.
The Solid Waste Division manages the County's solid waste disposal through implementation of the County Solid Waste Management Plan. Solid waste generated in the County is disposed of at the New Beulah Sanitary Landfill. The Division also operates County recycling centers.
SANITARY DISTRICT COMMISSION
The Sanitary District Commission governs the Sanitary District which includes the water system and sewerage system of Dorchester County. As a public corporate body, the Commission operates as a monopoly in providing water and sewer services to the County.
