In July 2000, the Business and Technology Division Task Force was authorized (Chapter 10, Acts of 2000). The Task Force studied the feasibility of establishing a specialized division in appropriate circuit courts in Maryland to adjudicate business and technology disputes.

The Task Force submitted its report to the Court of Appeals, the Governor, the Lt. Governor, the Senate President, the House Speaker, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the General Assembly on Dec. 1, 2000. With the issuance of its report, the Task Force concluded its work.
